All the fun of a Kahoot-style quiz, minus the clutter. A tiny quiz game for a room full of people: no accounts, no app, just a pin.
About
Pling is made by Peter Theill. It is a hobby project built to make it dead simple to run a quick quiz with friends, family, colleagues or a classroom: one person starts a quiz and gets a six-digit pin, everyone else enters it on their phone, and ten questions later there is a winner.
Questions come from a built-in bank in eight languages (Danish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch), each with questions specific to that language's countries. The host's language decides which bank is used. Points are awarded for correct answers, and faster answers score more.
Pling runs on Cloudflare Workers with a small D1 database and has no accounts, no tracking and no ads.
Privacy
Pling collects as little as possible. Here is exactly what happens with your data.
Game data. When you join a quiz, the name you type, your answers and your score are stored on the server together with the game's pin so the host and the other players can see the leaderboard. All games and players are deleted automatically 24 hours after the game was created.
On your device. Your chosen name and language are remembered in your browser's local storage so you don't have to type them again. Nothing else is stored, and no cookies are set.
No tracking. Pling uses no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers.
Hosting. Pling is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser also requests those files from Google.
Because there are no accounts, there is nothing to export or delete beyond what is already removed automatically. If you have a question about privacy, contact Peter via the link above.
Terms
Pling is free to use and provided as is, without any warranty. It may be changed, be unavailable or be shut down at any time.
Pick a name that is fine for everyone in the room to see. The host is responsible for the quiz they run and for who they share the pin with.
Don't try to abuse, overload or break the service.
Questions are written with care but may contain mistakes. If a question is wrong, take it in good humour, then let Peter know.
